FEATURE DOCUMENTARY 2024

It was billed as an Arts festival, yet the Nimbin Aquarius Festival opened the door to a New Age, giving a disillusioned generation something to believe in. It was also a crazy, good time. Part performance, part caper, part historical record, Aquarius 50 tells the story of a core group of radical dreamers and the events leading up to the Festival, in May 1973, when 10,000 people descended peacefully on the tiny dairy town of Nimbin. Fifty years later — using newly unearthed footage, first-person testimony and vivid memories — we piece together the whole Aquarius story, recreating the mosaic of a time and an event that changed a generation and a country, forever.
